Reader Agreement

Version 0.9 · Effective 2026-05-17

Independent contractor terms for Readers using BookTarot, including platform fee disclosure, tax responsibilities by jurisdiction, content standards, and dispute escalation.

1. Independent contractor relationship

You operate as an independent professional. BookTarot is the platform; you are the service provider. Nothing in this agreement creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint venture relationship.

2. Platform fee

BookTarot retains forty percent of the gross session price as a platform fee, and the remaining sixty percent is your gross payout before any applicable taxes you owe in your jurisdiction. Worked example: a USD 100 session results in USD 40 to BookTarot and USD 60 gross to you. Stripe Connect destination charges handle the split automatically.

3. Tax responsibilities

You are responsible for declaring and paying taxes in your jurisdiction. Notes by region (informational, not advice):

  • United States: payments may be reportable on Form 1099-K under current IRS thresholds. We will provide year-end summaries.
  • United Kingdom: self-employment income, register with HMRC where required.
  • EU: OSS/MOSS implications where your services are deemed cross-border; consult your local tax authority or accountant.
  • Canada: T4A and provincial sales tax considerations.
  • Australia: ABN registration and GST where turnover exceeds the threshold.

4. Conduct and content standards

You agree to comply with the Acceptable Use Policy, the Community Guidelines, and the prohibitions listed there, in addition to the following: no medical diagnoses, no legal advice, no financial advice beyond general reflection, no predictions about third parties' death, pregnancy, or serious health, no readings for minors, no readings under intoxication, no harassment or discrimination.

5. Intellectual property

You retain ownership of content you create on the Platform (bio, posts, replies). You grant BookTarot a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content for Platform operation. Recordings (if both parties opt in) are subject to the recording terms in the ToS.

6. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or remove your listing for violations of this agreement, the Terms, or applicable law. Material violations may result in immediate termination; lesser issues are addressed through a warning and review process.

7. Dispute escalation

Reader-Client disputes are resolved through the in-platform process; Reader-BookTarot disputes are resolved per the governing-law clause in the Terms.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BookTarot for third-party claims arising out of your readings or content, except to the extent caused by BookTarot's gross negligence or willful misconduct.

9. Changes

We will provide thirty days' notice of material changes to this agreement.
