Accessibility

A platform that works for every body and mind.

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance for the entire client experience. The work is ongoing; we publish what's done, what's in progress, and how to reach us when something falls short.

What's in place
  • Semantic HTML with proper landmark roles (header, nav, main, footer, article, aside) across every page
  • Keyboard navigation throughout · every interactive element reachable and operable by Tab and Enter
  • Focus rings visible on every interactive element (gold ring at 3px offset)
  • Heading hierarchy in logical order, no skipped levels
  • Alt text on every meaningful image; decorative images marked aria-hidden
  • Form labels associated with inputs; error messages announced to screen readers
  • Colour contrast above WCAG AA thresholds for body text and large text
  • Captions on every video where speech is present
  • Text resizable up to 200% without horizontal scrolling on standard layouts
  • Reduced-motion preferences respected · animations honour prefers-reduced-motion
  • Language attributes on the html element and switched correctly on multilingual pages
For sessions

BookTarot sessions are video by default, but readers can offer audio-only sessions for clients who prefer not to be on camera (deaf and hard-of-hearing clients often pair audio with a transcription service; others prefer audio for sensory comfort). Filter for audio-only on the browse page.

Live captions are available in sessions via the in-room caption toggle. Captions are generated by an automated service; accuracy varies. Some readers offer ASL or BSL sessions directly · filter by 'sign language' on the browse page.

Sessions can be recorded with consent. The recording includes a full transcript available within 24 hours of the session ending.

Known limitations
  • · Some MDX-rendered content (learn, blog, legal) may not pass automated WCAG audits on heading order if authors skip levels. We review at publication.
  • · The illustrated tarot card SVGs on the homepage are decorative; their detailed line art may not render meaningfully via screen reader (they are aria-hidden).
  • · Captions in non-English sessions have lower accuracy than English captions. We're working with our provider on improvements.
Accommodations

If anything on the platform creates a barrier for you, email accessibility@booktarot.com. We aim to respond within two business days and address most issues within 30 days. Urgent accommodations are handled faster · just let us know.

Standards and review

We test against WCAG 2.2 Level AA on every release. Automated testing runs in CI via axe-core; manual testing happens on a quarterly cadence with at least one screen-reader walkthrough per major flow. The next external audit is scheduled for Q3 2026.

This statement is reviewed every six months. Last reviewed: May 2026.
