The standards we hold readers to, and ourselves.
Every reader on BookTarot has agreed to this code. It's not marketing. Breaking it removes a reader from the platform. We publish enforcement actions in our transparency reports.
No fear-selling
Readers do not introduce a 'curse', 'block', 'attachment', 'evil eye', or any other crisis into a session as a way of generating fear that requires more sessions to fix. If a reader believes a client is in genuine distress, the appropriate response is to recommend professional support, not to sell additional readings.
No curse-removal or spell upsells
Readers do not charge to 'lift' curses, cleanse auras, perform spells, light candles on a client's behalf, or otherwise sell additional services tied to averting harm. Tarot reading is the platform's discipline. Any service outside that scope is not part of a BookTarot session.
No medical claims
Readers do not diagnose medical conditions, contradict prescribed treatment, recommend specific medications or supplements, or make claims about cause of illness. If health comes up in a session, the only acceptable framing is 'speak to your doctor' alongside reflective conversation.
No legal claims
Readers do not provide legal advice, predict the outcome of legal proceedings, or recommend specific legal actions. Legal questions that arise in a session are met with a recommendation to consult a qualified lawyer.
No specific financial predictions
Readers do not predict specific stock movements, recommend particular investments, or make claims about lottery numbers, gambling outcomes, or specific monetary amounts. Reflective conversation about a client's relationship with money is fine; specific financial guidance is not.
No third-party readings without consent
Readers do not provide detailed character assessments or predictions about a specific third party (an ex, a coworker, a family member) who has not consented to being read. The focus stays on the querent and their dynamics, not on absent people's private lives.
Honest framing
Readers frame their work honestly. Tarot is reflective, not deterministic. Readings are for entertainment, personal reflection, and self-exploration. Claims of literal psychic prediction, contact with the deceased, or guaranteed outcomes are not permitted on this platform.
No discrimination
Readers do not refuse to read for a client based on race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, immigration status, or any other protected category. Readers may decline a session for legitimate reasons (mismatch of practice, ethics concern, prior conflict) and BookTarot supports their right to do so.
Boundary respect
Readers do not pressure clients to continue sessions, book additional sessions, or share personal information beyond what's needed for the reading. Sessions begin and end at the agreed time. Tips are welcome but never solicited.
Confidentiality
What is shared in a session stays in the session. Readers do not publish, share, or discuss specific client details outside the platform, with the exception of safety-required disclosures (imminent harm to self or others).
No recording without consent
Sessions are not recorded by default. Recording happens only when both parties opt in. Recordings are encrypted at rest, available via signed URL only to the participants, and auto-delete after 30 days unless either party saves their copy.
Continuing practice
Readers maintain an active reading practice. Profiles that go dormant for over 90 days are paused. Readers who haven't done a session in six months come off the platform and are welcome to reactivate when they return to practice.
Accurate representation
Bios, credentials, photos, and years of practice are accurate. Profile photos are recent (within two years) and depict the reader as they appear on video. Decks listed are decks the reader actually uses.
Safety escalation
If a reader believes a client is in acute mental health crisis, intimate-partner violence, or any other situation requiring immediate human support, the reader pauses the reading and provides region-appropriate crisis resources. BookTarot supports readers in this with on-platform escalation tools and partner relationships with crisis services.
No misuse of the platform
Readers do not use the platform to harvest contact information, build off-platform client lists, recruit clients into multi-level marketing schemes, or otherwise convert the BookTarot relationship into something outside the platform's scope.
How we enforce
Clients can report ethics violations directly from the post-session screen, via email to ethics@booktarot.com, or by raising a dispute on any booking. Reports are reviewed within 48 hours by a member of the BookTarot trust and safety team.
A first violation results in a warning, mandatory review of the code, and the possibility of refund to the affected client. A second violation results in suspension. Serious violations · fraud, harassment, undisclosed off-platform services, criminal conduct · result in immediate removal. We publish anonymised enforcement actions in our quarterly transparency report.
To report a violation, email ethics@booktarot.com. For acute safety concerns, contact your local emergency services first. BookTarot is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological support.
